Principal’s Letter

August 2, 2022

Dear SFMS Community Members,

As the new year at school is going to start in a couple of days, I would like to introduce myself to you all. My name is Joshua McDonald, and I am the Principal at Santa Fe Middle School.  I am pleased to have received an opportunity to be a part of this growing community and most importantly a part of your child’s bright future. I assure you I will do my job proficiently and effectively.  Together we will accomplish great things!

I graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas with a degree in Atmospheric Science. While attending A&M I was on staff at the NASA Johnson Space Flight Center working with the Texas Aerospace Scholars program. The program would prove to be the catalyst that launched me into education. I was able to pick up my Texas teaching certificate through Region 4 and was hired by Mr.  McCanless, our CISD superintendent,  in Channelview as a freshman science teacher in 2008. I  worked in Channelview ISD from 2008 to 2015 and gained experience as a science teacher, STEM lab & robotics teacher, Science Department Chair, and Science Instructional Coach. During that time I was also able to complete my Masters in Educational Technology from the University of Texas in the Rio Grande Valley and my administration training through Region 4.  In 2015, my family and I  relocated to the Katy area where I spent one year as a teacher before becoming an Assistant Principal at Mayde Creek Junior High. After four years, I transitioned to Seven Lakes HS to be an Assistant Principal.  During my time in Katy ISD, I was involved in helping at-risk students through tutorial interventions and student mentoring.

I am married to my wife, Kate, and we have two daughters, Anika (7) and Carissa (5). We  are very excited about the opportunity to join Cleveland ISD and open Santa Fe MS. I am ready to bring my strong relational and organizational skills to positively contribute to the reputation of academic excellence CISD is known for.

This coming school year will be the inaugural year for Santa Fe MS. Our goals will be focused on the following areas:

  • Safety & Security:

    1. creating a safe and secure environment for students and staff to be successful,

  • Organization and Systems:

    1. Establishing systems that promote organized structures,

  • Innovative Learning Solutions:

    1. Promoting an environment where all community members are continuously learning and showcasing what they have learned,

  • Relationship Development:

    1. Fostering an environment that encourages strong relational development amongst all SFMS stakeholders.

  • Here at Santa Fe Middle School we are 100% committed to providing our students with a quality education that supports and encourages active parent involvement. We would love to talk to anyone who may be interested in partnering with us through volunteering, joining our PIE (Parents in Education) program, or supporting us with various donations.

You can contact me by phone at 346-799-4990 or email at Joshua.McDonald@clevelandisd.org if you have any doubts, questions, or concerns.

I look forward to meeting you at Meet the Teacher Night on August 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Thank you for all that you do,
