Cleveland ISD Names Dr. Glenn Barnes as Lone Finalist for Superintendent
The Cleveland ISD Board of Trustees is proud to announce Dr. Glenn Barnes as the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools. Following an extensive search, the Board has selected Dr. Barnes for his proven leadership, deep ties to the community, and unwavering commitment to student success.
Dr. Barnes is no stranger to Cleveland ISD. Having previously served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal within the district, he played a vital role in advancing academic achievement, including leading Cleveland Middle School to earn all seven TEA distinctions—an honor awarded to only 5% of schools in the state. His leadership experience also includes serving as Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Culture at Splendora ISD and most recently as Superintendent of Aransas Pass ISD, where he implemented strategic initiatives that strengthened academic performance, leadership development, and district operations.
"Cleveland ISD is home for me, and I am honored to return and serve this incredible district once again," said Dr. Barnes. "I look forward to working alongside our students, staff, families, and community to build on our strengths and create new opportunities for success."
Board President Amanda Brooks expressed confidence in Dr. Barnes' leadership, stating: "Dr. Barnes understands Cleveland ISD, our students, and our community. His experience and passion for education make him the right choice to guide our district into the future."
Per Texas law, the Board must observe a 21-day waiting period before officially appointing Dr. Barnes as Superintendent. The final vote is expected at a Board meeting later this month.
Stay tuned for updates, and join us in welcoming back Dr. Glenn Barnes to Cleveland ISD! ❤️✨

We would like to provide clarification regarding the $400 stipend that was recently given to only teachers and IATs at the Pine Burr Elementary, Santa Fe Elementary, Santa Fe Middle School, and Cleveland Middle School campuses.
The stipend came from federal government funds under the Title I ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act). As a financial incentive to retain teaching staff in Title I schools that are identified for improvement under section 1111(d), new provisions were included for the 24-25 school year and beyond. These four campuses were the only CISD campuses to meet the criteria necessary for this stipend to be provided.
Please understand that this stipend comes from federal funds and does NOT come from local CISD tax dollars, nor does the district have any control over how the funds are distributed.
Superintendent McCanless and CISD Administration will be reviewing this incentive and entering discussions with state and federal education directors in order to see how future incentives may or may not affect ALL of Cleveland ISD.

The Cleveland ISD May 2025 school bond referendum initiative has been suspended. Cleveland ISD will communicate future bond plans in late 2025. If you have questions or concerns, please email info@clevelandisd.org.

Congrats to Mr. Jesus Ornelas, Facility Specialist at SFMS and SFE, for receiving a shout out for his dedication to the campuses and students!! Well deserved! #MaintenanceShoutout #theClevelandISDway
